KAA Gent is more than a football club. KAA Gent is an organization with a social purpose with a distinct social commitment: the KAA Gent Foundation. Bringing together and strengthen the community of Gent is our most important mission. The KAA Gent Foundation is the connecting force of KAA Gent.

In 2019 they participated in the one-year Welcome Through Football programme of EFDN. They experimented with setting up football for development programs focusing on refugees, asylum seekers and people with migratory background. Because of the limited funding they chose to lower the barriers of existing programs in order to include more children and youngsters who are part of the target group. These programs are run in the neighbourhood next to the football stadium, which is a very diverse setting. It is an area where housing mostly consist out of social housing. There is a lot of poverty and a low level of employment within its inhabitants. Also, a large part of the people living in the most deprived areas of Ghent are neighbourhoods where there are a lot of different ethnic communities.
